“Launch”. A word which evokes anticipation, suspense and excitement.
On June 26th, the official launch of the summer 2015 issue of Knokke Actueel by Prestige was more than a social event. It was the showcasing of the new look, feel and image for the 20th edition of the popular magazine. It was a gathering of older and new friends, editors, columnists, journalists and magazine contributors in a vibrant atmosphere. Monroe Beach was the perfect setting as a door to a sea-front world of carefree relaxation and amusement. The minute I passed below that welcoming entrance arch, I felt released from my everyday troubles. People were laughing and taking selfies, gradually letting loose and enjoying each other’s company as if only today mattered.
The evening was ideally sunny with a gentle cool breeze stroking our faces and making the ladies look so femme fatale with the wind trying to find an escape through their hair locks. The chill-out music which progressively turned into the latest radio versions and light easy-listening pop hits created a scene of tranquility and pleasant ambiance. The serenity of pure white all over the couches, the tall bar stands and the wooden path leading to the sea, as well as the view on the waves – which were especially calm that day - enhanced the general feel of a luxurious and easy-going Riviera lifestyle.
Breaking the white with floral handcrafts and a gigantic Knokke Actueel logo board by ISO MOOI added color and put smiles on our faces. A few touches of green from mini palm-trees, araucarias, pine trees and well-manicured spiral cypresses created an illusion of Monaco. Photographs from unconventional Marilyn Monroe’s intense, glamorous life, but also her sweeter moments, decorated the walls of the bar kiosk and beach cabins, which proved to be the perfect background for a picture in my favorite summer outfit and a toast with a refreshing Domaine Lalaurie rosé. What could be more in harmony with that environment, than a long white sleeveless summer dress, patterned with light gray roses and completed with beige Gucci sandals and a handmade stone-embellished Vashionista necklace?
I felt reborn. I felt like Marilyn.
