The notion of me sinking in my beige linen Flamant living-room armchair with my feet resting slightly raised on my matching ottoman and every so often sluggishly reaching for the remote to catch the next sitcom, as if it were the most fascinating adventure in one of my expecting days, is merely a product of poor imagination. What did you expect from an actively involved woman like me who constantly seeks to sip every droplet of life?
Surely, pregnancy is not a rose garden - despite the fact that the women who have walked its path have all but warned me against its thorns and mud puddles. Mother, grandmother, cousins and friends who now fully enjoy the joys of motherhood keep reassuring me that it is all worthwhile. It seems that it is in our genetic code to veil unpleasant experiences, so that we can move forward and make the same decision fearlessly once more.
But, what can you gain, if you just sit and complain over spilled milk? I suppose I will have plenty time for this later. Better do something fun that will lift your spirit, like hunt down comfortable loafers and sandals or the latest trends in clothes fit for pregnancy-related curves in the town's most prestigious stores but also hidden treasure caverns. Then pose and only pout for a selfie!
The items that I have adored this season are the long pleated and lace skirts in pastel shades and luxurious romantic textures like mousseline and tulle. I have added several pieces to my wardrobe in light pink, beige, blue, yellow and gray which can be combined effortlessly with a bohemian kaftan or a loose long top, they can be worn over, on or below the belly - that's a personal choice of comfort - and smartly cover possibly swollen ankles or - if you are really unlucky - visible veins. Make sure you do not buy a bigger size than what you actually need - I got myself a size small - because the elastic on the waist provides great flexibility. This way you can still do the style after the nine-month wait, alternatively with a light sweater or shirt throughout the Fall. You can find beautiful affordable skirts and tops indicatively in Zara, Lola Liza, Fashion Bianconero and Moggy's in Knokke. Let's be fashionable yet practical and not spend a fortune for just a few months.
As for the shoes, New Paris Londres offers ballerinas, loafers and sandals for all tastes and ages. When it comes to sandals though, it can be tricky to tie them on your own as your pregnancy progresses, so I suggest you chose a pair without a buckle on the outer side of the foot, but elastic instead. Alternatively, stick to feminine dressed flip-flops. I discovered the pair that will lead my steps through the summer in the boutique Moggy's in Knokke. If you are the girly type who loves pearl details and metallic glam, then you should try this pair of pillow-padded sandals for - believe it or not - less than 25 EUR!
The proposed looks have already been cherished by fashion icons of the catwalk, the big and the small screen. Actress and Goodwill ambassador Angelina Jolie is radiant in her long green pleated satin dress. TV persona Kristin Cavallari embraces a young chic look and exposes her protruding belly in a fun way with an uneven short top. Gisele, the pure face of Marianne having evolved into a mature woman with a full seven-month pregnant figure proudly poses as a modern muse in an ethereal draped dress. Those ladies seem to enjoy their curves. So, no matter what you expect - girl or boy that is -, you should take some time to give the woman inside you a thrill - or two.
